Reveries on Time and Place
December, 98 (written at Peter Grimes, SF Opera, Dec. 2)

Melodies of distant news
Songs of yesterday and views of home
And stolen moments caught
In shafts of light
Today, like scattered diamonds
Thrown as stones
Unknown
But many years ago.

The curtain falls in mid idea
Augmented chords are etched in light
and stretched in place
Where grace suspended
oscillates in time
The pantomime
As shadow play
Resumes
